Trained in Voice Performance at Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music, Sam Garcia is a diverse vocal artist who sings in styles ranging from classical and musical theatre to jazz and pop. Based in Taipei, they currently sing baritone with the award-winning a cappella group Voco Novo (爵諾歌手), second tenor with Taiwan’s top chamber choir, the Taipei Male Singers (拉縴人歌手), and serve as the second tenor section leader for The Rejuvenis Group (海歸人聲合唱團). Sam has performed at top performance halls around Taiwan, including the National Concert Hall, the National Taichung Theatre, the Weiwuying National Center for the Arts, and the Taipei Performing Arts Center.
Performing at the Presidential Palace in Taipei
Working with Voco Novo since 2020, Sam sung with them at the Presidential Palace's New Year's Flag Raising Ceremony on the morning of January 1st, 2023.
Sam also sang in the cross-genre concert series between Voco Novo and the XinXin Nanguan Ensemble, which featured concerts in Taipei’s Zhongshan Hall, the Chiayi Performing Arts Center, Pingtung Performing Arts Center, and the Quanta Arts Exhibition Center in Taoyuan.

Sam has sung with Voco Novo at festivals and concerts throughout Taiwan, including the Hakka Live Festival, Taoyuan Vocal Festival, Vocal Asia Festival, Taiwan Tango Music Festival, Kulumaha Music Festival, and the "NTT Airlines" 2021 New Years concert.
In 2023, Voco Novo also released their new album, Goza Goza: Live Recording in Church, featuring Sam's original song "Freedom." Sam appears on every track on the album, singing lead vocal on two and baritone on the others.
Singing with the Taipei Male Singers since 2022, Sam first joined them for the “Back to Barbershop” concert at the National Concert Hall, a collaboration with the Swedish barbershop quartet, the Ringmasters. Sam has since sung with the Taipei Male Singers at festivals throughout Taiwan, including the Taoyuan Children's Art Festival and FOCASA Circus Festival in Penghu.
In 2023, the Taipei Male Singers joined the Evergreen Symphony Orchestra for a musical selection concert series in Hsinchu, Taichung and Tainan.
A highlight of the 2022 season was Sam’s performance in “DaVinci’s Notebook,” a theatre collaboration between the Taipei Male Choir and the Formosa Circus Act for the Taipei Performing Art Center’s Opening Festival in August. For this production, Sam not only sung as a soloist in Cantonese and German, but also took the stage as a drag queen, making them the first drag queen to appear on the Taipei Performing Arts Center’s Grand Theatre stage. “DaVinci’s Notebook” returned on November 27 as a part of the 2022 Taoyuan Iron Rose Festival.

An internationally renowned musician, Sam has performed in concerts and recitals across three continents. This includes training and concerts with the Aberystwyth MusicFest in Wales in 2012 and 2018. While living in Singapore in 2014, Sam performed concerts with New Opera Singapore, including Dichterliebe & Hermit Songs at the Arts House and An Evening at the Opera at the Esplanade. At the the Miami Music Festival in 2015, Sam not only sung in various concerts but also performed the role of Albert Herring in Benjamin Britten's Albert Herring. They have sung in venues across China, including the Wuhan International Arts Center in 2016, the Shenjing Grand Theatre in Shenyang in 2017, and the Ningbo Grand Theatre in 2019.
At Northwestern University, Sam sung the roles of Tamino (The Magic Flute), Fredrick (Pirates of Penzane), Trio Tenor (Trouble in Tahiti), Don Curzio (Le Nozze de Figaro), and Sheldon in the Chicago Premiere performance of John Musto's Later the Same Evening. Sam also sung the title role in the original opera Ethan Frome, composed and directed by Alex Sayde.
During their studies at Northwestern, Sam also was selected for the Musical Theatre Certificate Program, receiving training in acting, dancing, and singing specific to musical theatre. Previous musical theatre credits include Amos (Chicago), Baker (Into the Woods), Anselmo (Man of La Mancha), as well as Tony in scenes from West Side Story and Antipholus in scenes from Boys from Syracuse.
