Founded in 2009 in Taiwan, Voco Novo creates a variety of music genres with their skillful vocal. In addition to pop music and vocal jazz, the group digs deep into their own culture, performing world music and self-written songs, which have become the group’s iconic style. Voco Novo won the 2nd prize in 2015 Tampere Music Festival competition, and the Gold Diploma for both “pop” and “jazz” categories at the 2012 vokal.total International A Cappella Competition in Austria, and took the “Best Arrangement” award with the song "Under the Tung Blossom Trees." At the 2013 CARA, Voco Novo’s album won the “Best Asian Album” and the song “Across the Milky way” was the runner-up for “Best World Music Song.” Audiences from around the world keep falling in love with the unique Taiwanese style of this group.
Sam joined Voco Novo in March 2020, becoming the first non-Taiwanese group member. In addition to singing baritone, Sam has sung lead on several songs in Mandarin, English, German, and Taiwanese. In the 2021-2022 season, Voco Novo and the XinXin Nanguan Ensemble (心心南管樂坊) presented a cross-genre collaborative concert series in Taipei’s Zhongshan Hall, the Chiayi Performing Arts Center, Pingtung Performing Arts Center, and the Quanta Arts Exhibition Center in Taoyuan. The concert featured new arrangements that add a cappella to traditional nanguan pieces, arranged by the group's founder and leader Christine Liu.
Ringing in the new year, Voco Novo also performed in the New Year Concert (2021歲末音樂會 - 去歌劇院輕旅行) at the National Taichung Theatre. They also appeared in the 2022 Taiwan Tango Music Festival, singing a new piece specifically for Voco Novo, composed by Algy Ing (吳睿然). Throughout 2022 Voco Novo has been preparing a new album of all live-recorded original songs. Sam's original song "Freedom" will be featured on this album.
